Three international leading architects from Japan and EU are invited as commissioners to select 20 architects in total for the exhibition. On the Japanese side, Mr. Fumihiko Maki, Mr. Toyo Ito, and Mr. Hiroshi Hara work by annual rotation as commissioners to select 5 young/promising architects from Japan. On the EU side, one curator is invited from each Cultural Capitalfs state to select 15 young/promising architects from 15 EU Member States. For the first edition, Fumihiko Maki, Alvaro Siza and Wiel Arets were appointed the commissioners.

He was born in 1941 in Seoul. He graduated in 1965 University of Tokyofs architectural school. From 1965 to 69 he worked in Kiyonori Kikutakefs office. In 1971he founded his office Urban Robot(URBOT), which reorganized into Toyo Ito & Associates in 1979.
Sendai Mediatheque, which was completed last year, was the most popular topic of discussion not only in architecture, but also in other design and social fields.
He has won many Japanese and overseas awards, which include Japanese Architectural Academy award.
Born in 1963 in Madrid.
He received his architectural degree in Madrid and also at Harvard Graduate school. From 1991 to 1992 he worked at OMA. In 1992 he founded Foregn Office Architects with Farshid Moussavi. He teaches at AA school, Berlage institute, Columbia University and Princeton University. This year Yokohama ferry terminal, which they won by international competition will be completed.
Born in 1943 in Temse, Belgium.
In 1968 he graduated the Hoger Sint Lukasinstituut in Brussle.
He founded ARCHITECTENWERKGROEP in 1972. Since then, he has designed variety of buildings in this office.
He is currently professor in architectural design studio at the Henry Van de Velde Institute, Antwerp.
He has been nominated several times for Mies Van Der Rohe Award for European Architecture, and received many major architectural awards.
